Jim Pomeroy a.k.a. "Bimbo"
Once a kid who thought Flat Track was so "Boss",
would turn out to be an Idol of motocross.
As a young pro, he was tough to beat.
But when he jumped at the L.A. Coliseum, he brought the crowd to their feet.
He made us proud in the land of the free.
By smoking them all in Spain in '73.
As an American he was the first
But getting second place, it was the worst
After that terrible blow.
Who could over love a Maico?
He told me the Spanish flame he had
wouldn't have happened if not for his buddy "Bad Brad"
He came to Dick's race
and proclaimed "what a fun place"
He raced to a win with a broken back.
"I love it" was his only comeback.
Oh yes, big and loud.
You could never lose him in a crowd.
He was a man of very simple needs.
Maybe just another bucket of sunflower seeds.
If you were lucky enough to attend his school,
then you know it was pretty damn cool.
When you raced in the 50+,
he was the guy to put it to all of us.
He had the respect of Desoto, Jones, Brad, Tom, Buck, Rick, Ron & Jammer.
But when it came down to business. "Bimbo" could threw down the hammer
He had form and style down to a Tee.
But always had time for slow guys like you and me.
Knowing Jim right from the start.
You would never find anyone with a bigger heart.
As another brother crosses the final finish line,
all would agree it's before his time.
Soon he'll be reunited with Don.
He'll hear him say "what the hell took you so long?"
You will be missed my friend.
